Publication of the new EC ‘Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulations’ (PPWR) is expected by the end of 2022, or early in 2023. Currently The Commission will not comment on the likely contents, however, previous consultations have included proposals for minimum mandatory recycled content in packaging, bans on the use of certain hard to recycled plastic packaging, together with targets for an overall reduction in the amount of packaging placed on the market in all Member States.
Users of packaging, especially Brands and Retailers, will have to modify their product specifications to ensure they comply with the requirements of the new PPWR.
During this SCANPACK conference session Mike Baxter will discuss how businesses can prepare for new regulations coming both from the Commission, plus additional regulations currently being proposed by individual Member States, and, equally importantly - What can users and manufacturers of packaging do to try and influence any future legislation?
